Ah, fall. Bonfires. The beauty of the changing of leaves from bright reds and yellows to rust and orange. The air gets colder and crisper and breathing just feels easier. Fall is a favorite season for many and it is our hope to you, that despite everything going on in our world, you’ll still be able to enjoy some of the wonderful things this season has to offer.
Negativity on Social Media
Today, we are relying on social media more heavily than ever - to help us stay connected in a world uprooted by a global pandemic. Consequently, we are being bombarded with too much information, from every aspect of our lives, and every aspect of everyone else’s lives that we choose to follow. We are witnessing everything from a worldwide pandemic, civil unrest, political upheaval, and catastrophic and sometimes horrific events being recorded live for all to see. We are being constantly exposed to a lot of heavy information and negatively.
Controversy Behind Cuties Movie
Few films have attracted as much global attention and controversy as the French Film, Cuties, directed by French-Senegalese filmmaker Maïmouna Doucouré. Winner of the 2020 Sundance Film Festival World Cinema Dramatic Competition, the film follows an 11-year-old caught between traditional Muslim upbringing and internet culture.
Text Scam has No Evidence to Suggest Ties to Sex Trafficking
Social media users have shared thousands of text messages from a phishing scheme online, claiming they are connected with sex trafficking. The messages have been confirmed as a scam, however, police departments throughout the U.S. and trafficking experts have shared that there is no direct evidence to imply an affiliation with human trafficking. They do, however, raise an alarm on financial scamming and ease of access by cybercriminals into personal data through affiliate links.
Here’s what one week of remote learning taught me…
This e-learning in elementary school takes things to an entirely new level. And as much time as I spent preparing a cozy, quiet space for my child to study at home… I couldn’t have ever prepared my brain for the sheer chaos we are currently experiencing through e-learning. Without our usual schedules and support systems in place, we are dealing with unusual behaviors, added stress, and trying to keep our mental and physical health intact. Some days are far better than others. Here’s what I know, right now at this moment…
Kik Messenger is notoriously known as a freeware instant messaging mobile application. After a user registers under a username, Kik unlocks a world that transmits and receives messages in many forms. This includes text, live photo and video, saved images, sketches, mobile web pages and more. Due to its advertised anonymity, young adults are particularly drawn to this application. The false sense of security it provides and the inability for parents to monitor what goes on in the app is resulting in increased participation in unsafe and harmful online activities.
Digital Impacts on Freedom of Speech
The Constitution of the United States offers guidance to individuals in their use of speech, both written and spoken present in the First Amendment Free Speech Clause. The backbone of the First Amendment is the protection offered to individuals from government entities constraining or compelling their usage of speech. The arrival of the internet and social media forums have complicated the traditional idea of the First Amendment.
Team Bonding and Branding
“It’s more than just a game...”
The statement that has long defined pep talks rings true to every team that enters a court or sets up on the field. Players can be exceptional athletes but can lose sight of themselves in the quest to become the best of the best or take on the winning score or trophy. For most sports, it isn’t solely about the individual players, but about allowing oneself to step back and put teammates first in order to become a part of something bigger.

Online Community Guidelines and Standards
Social media may widen a sense of social freedom through the ability to express your online views and personal successes to a wide and unlimited audience. However, each reputable social media platform has devised a set of Terms of Service or Community Guidelines designed to decree a set of standards that users must abide by in order to utilize the service. Whether or not these guidelines are closely monitored by the social media empires are up for interpretation.
Smart Gen Society has put together a set of community guidelines and standards to act as a basis for everyone to follow as social media continues to become a more prominent way to communicate in today’s society.
