Social media allows you to create your own online identity, communicate with others and express yourself. However, being constantly connected can have its consequences. There are costs to your data and privacy but most importantly your mental health and well-being.
1. Post on social media this graphic on all your social media platforms to declare your participation in the challenge. Use #unplugandbepresent, follow and tag @SmartGenSoc on Facebook and Instagram. Challenge and tag a few of your friends to join you on this journey.
2. Unplug! Take a one-week break from social media. This includes Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Exception: five minutes a day to maintain Snapchat streaks. We also ask that you don't use any streaming services on handheld devices.
3. Be present! Live in real life.
We appreciate your participation in this challenge! Hopefully, by taking a break you’ll learn to think critically about how, and how much, you use it going forward. We think you might find that by taking a break you have improved mood, better personal relationship, more self-worth, and increased productivity.
